The advantage of a trailer tent is that it offers a roomy alternative to a caravan, however it can be stowed away and can be towed on a small trailer, instead of having to haul a big caravan around instead. It is better for those who do not have a motor vehicle that is sufficiently powerful enough to pull a caravan, but still want to tour around.

However, like most things valuable, you may want to have trailer tent insurance, to make sure any unforeseen event that could happen is covered and so will not completely ruin either your holiday or even your wallet. As the trailer tent is a specialist piece of equipment, you will find that there are a lot of brokers on the net that specialise in this specific type of insurance. It goes without saying that, if a company has expertise in something they are usually the best to use and if the price is right then you are on to a winner.
It is important to remember however that the cheapest insurance is not necessarily the best, as it might be skimping on cover you may consider essential. To start with, it is important to understand that insurance is all about the balance of risk; if something is at more risk, then it an insurer will charge more to insure it. In this way, you should try to make your trailer tent as secure as possible, securing anything that is potentially worth stealing and keeping it out of the view when it is not in use so it does not get damaged.

One thing you should also do is to clarify as much what your policy doesn’t cover as much as what it does cover. If for instance you tend to carry with you a lot of expensive camping equipment when you use your trailer-tent, you might find that a basic policy does not cover these items in the event of damage or theft.

Adding to the basic structure of your tent is a very good idea. There are hundreds of accessories out there to make your trailer more versatile and homely. If you want to extend your living space then an awning or sun canopy can be a useful addition. This will allow you to relax and sunbathe when the weather is nice, or just sit down and enjoy the outdoors with a bit of protection. You may need the extra space for sleeping more people, so inner tents could be on your list of things to get, along with an annex. This is a fairly inexpensive way of quickly adding more accommodation. Most of the trailer tent manufacturers sell these side panels and doors, so al you need to do is make sure you have the right brand and the fitting should be pretty straightforward. If you are unsure, then get the retailer to show you how to do this, they will be happy for the custom no doubt.

In addition to altering the basic tent structure, you can also buy front and rear storage boxes, which fit onto the back or front of your trailer and are most commonly used to store gas bottles, fridges and groundsheets. If you plan on taking your bikes with you then you will need a bike rack, or a luggage rack. These fit on the top or the rear of your vehicle and are a handy way to pack a few bikes together if your stuck for space.

Other neat trailer tent accessories are tarpaulin covers, which will protect the tent in rough weather when it is being towed. This will preserve the canvas and makes sure your tent lasts the course of time. A spare wheel bracket is another good idea, and these can be fitted to the underside of the trailer, you never know when you might need it, but it always good to know it’s there. Jockey wheels are designed to make things easier, and you really do need one of these. Most trailers come with these as standard, but if you have bought a used one you may need to buy one. The jockey wheel will allow you to move your trailer into position when you arrive at camp, without it you will probably struggle.

Tables and chairs are other essential bits of equipment, and the best are the lightweight folding kinds, so you can pack them flat and they will not take up too much room in transit. Inner underside beds are a good way of storing things or sleeping the kids in. Very handy to have around in an emergency just in case. As far as the inside of the tent goes, the possibilities are almost endless, and the extras you may need will depend on the standard specification of the trailer tent when you bought it.

Curtains and tie backs can make the decor look much neater and pleasant. Matching them to the existing decor is a must, so look for the correct colours and patterns if you can. Back rests for the seats is a way to add more comfort for relaxing and eating. Another table inside is also a good move if you have unexpected guests, you can always store it in the awning if you have one. Extra cooking facilities are also handy, such as an extra hob or grill. There are many different portable desgins on the internet that don’t cost a lot of money. This could be a way of saving some money because the portable kinds are probably cheaper than the fitted cookers that come with brand new trailer tents.

On the outside you can buy corner steadies to help improve the balance of the trailer, and make things safer. Additional brakes can be bought for the trailer to improve stopping distances and overall towing performance. There are hundreds of ways to improve your camping experience, and make things a little bit more simple and convenient. Have a good look around because the choice is huge, and grow your list of accessories as you go along. Experience will help you out in this matter, as you will know what the really essential bits of kit are.

Raclet are a very popular trailer tent brand, who have a good reputation. The Raclet range is more affordable than others, and offers comfort and ease of use for those on a budget. The first in the range is the Minto, which retails at around £2000, and is a 4 berth trailer, which is very compact when stored away, making it very easy to tow. However, when erected it offers great living space, especially when the awning is attached. The trailer is just over 2 metres long, so it will fit into your garage for easy storage. An optional canopy is also available and it is easy to attach to the cabin with the zips, good for short stays if you are in a hurry and don’t want the hassle of putting an awning up.

The Raclet Flores 230 is a larger camper trailer, at 3.5 metres and there are a few more standard pieces of equipment such as a kitchen unit and storage spaces. The awning makes a big difference to the size and living accomodation, and there is an optional extension that will really give you more space if needed. It sleeps 4 people comfortably and it costs around £2200. Best used for short stays and weekend breaks, but a very good choice indeed. There is also the Flores 480 which is much larger version, and is great for large families and unexpected guests.

The Raclet Solena is the most popular from the range and a new one will cost about £2900. It is a two berth trailer with the hard top roof, and has been a big seller for hte past few years. The main advantage is that it is very easy to erect and put away, making it an idea choice for short or long stay holidays.

An awning is extra, and is very easy to attach to the cabin area. The standard Solena does not come with any cooking appliances, but there are many different cookers and hobs to choose from that will add more to your trailer. You do get a ventilated kitchen area with a window, and inner tents. A bedroom annex is also available for more accomodation if needed.

The Allegra is a larger tent which includes a kitchen, but the awning is an optional extra. The price is around £3000 or more from new, but there a quite a few ex demo and used models about on the market that represent good value for money. You may get it cheaper from a local specialist dealer if you look around a bit.

The Quickstop and the Super Quickstop are a step up, and are more folding camper than trailer tent. Very easy to put up and take down, they have a cooker as standard, and very comfortable beds which can sleep four people. The awning is supplied as standard, and overall there is a quality feel to them.

The range topper is the Raclet Tamaris, which is a folding camper of real style and comfort. Lots of standard equipment including a cooker, cassette toilet, slide away tables, wardrobe, mains connections for gas, water and electric supply, curtains and roof lining. A great way to enjoy your holiday in total comfort.

There are other Raclet trailers such as the Marathon, Santale, Jasmin, Iris and Safari, and they all serve different needs and requirements. All in all, Raclet are a trusted and well respected brand that offer practical and stylish trailer tents at affordable prices.

Coleman are the most popular trailer tent manufacturer in North America. They have been building their products for many years and are rightly considered to be the best on the market. As proof of this, they have been the best selling brand in America for many years. The reason is that the quality and build are second to none. Every trailer in the range is designed for every kind of requirement, so there is something for every taste and budget. The ranges are also very extensive, with lots of innovative features to make your Camping experience more enjoyable.

The Destiny series offers economy and quality at the same time. There are four trailer tents in this range, which are the Westlake, Sea Pine, Yuma and the Sedona. Each has a different floor layout to suit your needs. They all have two large double beds in the sleeping areas at either end of the trailer. As standard there are double burners ovens, counter tops, stainless steel sinks, a fridge, ample table space, interior and exterior lighting by way of 12v supply. There is a large seating area and privacy curtains for the windows and the two bedroom areas. Even though this series is considered to be the entry level trailer tent range, it still offers great comfort and real quality. This is why coleman are one of the most respected names in the game.

The Evolution series has been voted as the best off road trailer tent in America. We have the Cobalt, and the E1, 2, 3, and 4. The most well equipped is the E4 trailer tent, which offers huge living space, two double sleeping areas. The kitchen facilities are just like being in your kitchen at home, with an oven, a two burner stove, microwave oven, fridge, double sink, drainer, outdoor cooking stove, dining tables and work tops. This is the top end trailer and the quality reflects this.

The bedroom areas have fully upholstered mattresses with back support systems. There is a ceramic shower, with solid wall bathroom structure. Safety wise there are smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms. and a fire extinguisher. All the windows are fine mesh for good air circulation. There is even an ipod socket along with indoor and outdoor radios. All this is standard, but there are a whole host of optional extras as well, such as air conditioning, boat and bike mounting kits and you can add rooms to this already amazing trailer if you want more space.

The Americana series has 3 trailer tents which are the Mesa, Bayside and Utah. All have different layouts and the Utah is the range topper, with many standard features such as an indoor stove, fridge and a slide out dining table. The other two models are variations of the same equipment, and the Americana range has been voted the best low sided trailer tent in America. Because they are low sided it makes them that bit easier to tow.

The Americana LE series has the Cheyenne, Santa Fe, and the Sun Valley. Again, they all have similar layouts depending on your own requirements. This allows you to tailor your trailer tent just for you. You have the basics and it is up to you if you wish to add any of the many optional extras. It is this attention to detail and being able to ofer so much choice that makes Coleman the market leader.

The Highlander series is the top of the class and quality league. There are the Saratoga, the Niagra and the Avalon. All are high sided trailer tents. The Avalon has every conceivable extra you can think of, and is the ultimate in comfort, build and style. The others are not far behind in terms of equipment, and you could make the other two the same specification as the Avalon if you go for all the extra options. The Highlander is just like being at home all the time. Probably the best high sided trailer tent money can buy, from a trusted and well respected name.

Dandy are a very popular trailer tent manufacturer who go back a long way. They have been producing quality tents for many years now. Recently they trade under the Riva Leisure name, but the same quality that has built their reputation is still there, as the many people who own them will testify. Even some of the models that are 30 years old are still going strong, and being bought and sold on the second hand market. This is living proof of their durability and build quality. Well made and easy to tow, it is not hard to see why they are a firm favourite with campers.

The first trailer tent in the range is the Dandy Dart, which is designed to be easy to tow and lightweight, whilst still being very versatile and sturdy. The Dandy is just 350 kgs, so you don’t need a great big car or van to tow it. It can be converted from a trailer to a camper in under 10 minutes, which is good news if the weather is bad and you need to get things done in a hurry.

The Dart is four berth, with a big sized double bed, and a settee that can be converted into another double sized bed. You could easily add your camping sleeping bags to the settee and be set up in an emergency. Two of the windows are double glazed for added comfort and protection, as well as two plastic windows, so there is plenty of visibility. There is plenty of luxury inside, with a quality wood effect floor and well insulated roof and side walls. The interior is very well made and the upholstery and fabrics are tastefully designed. The fabrics are all fire proof for extra safety.

A fully equipped kitchen is also included, which has a double hob and grill, and a sink and drainer unit. Everything is in here for the perfect holiday. Curtains also give privacy, and are well matched o the overall interior design. The Dandy Dart is one of the most popular trailer tents around today.

Next up is the Dandy Designer, which is a step up in price and class. Heavier than the Dart at 395 kgs, but still very easy to tow. It can sleep up to 5 people, with a large double bed, a convertable settee that gives you another double bed, and the option of another single sized bed by utilising the centre table area. The windows are double glazed, with a further three plastic windows.

You get the same quality interior, with the wood effect flooring, privacy curtains, tasteful fabrics and upholstery that are fire resistant. There is a real quality feel inside the Designer trailer tent. For more comfort and practicality there is a centre table area between the two settees so you enjoy your meals in comfort. A storage area is also included, which is very handy indeed. You also have the kitchen unit with double hob, grill, sink and rainer facilities. As well as all this there is extrernal storage for the gas bottle and spare wheel. All in all, a quality trailer tent/ folding camper for all the family to relax and enjoy the outdoors, that is built to last.

The Dandy Riva Destiny is a further step up in comfort and quality. Designed for larger families, it can sleep up to 6 people. Two double beds, and two large settees that can also convert into two double beds mean there is ample accomodation for all. The roof is cotton lined, and all the walls are insulated. Three double glazed windows that can be opened offer even more comfort, and there are interior lights as well.

The interior offers outstanding quality and comfort, with matching upholstery and fabrics that really add style to this trailer tent. A fully equipped kitchen area with the standard double burner and grill are in here. In addition there is a good sized fridge, and also a toilet with wash basin. There are wardrobes, cupboards and lockers for superb storage space. The Destiny is one of the best around for sure. External storage for your gas bottles is taken care of too.

The latest Dandy Riva trailer tent is the Dimension, which has all the same specification as the Destiny but has power assisted beds and side walls. It can sleep up to 6 people with ease, and has shelves and numerous storage spaces and cupboards. A very big central table unit means the whole family can sit down and eat in comfort. The top of the range trailer tent from Dandy, it is the ultimate in luxury camping and the quality reflects this. One of the most expensive trailer tents on the market, but also one of the best.

The Conway trailer tent range ceased to exist in 2003, when they began trading under the pennine group name, and started selling folding campers instead. However, the Conway name can still be seen in many places for their pre 2003 trailer tents. If you want one now it will have to be a used trailer tent. Having said this, the used market has hundreds of Conway trailer tents available. The reason is that they made fabulous and stylish products for many years. They still manufacture folding campers and have a few newer models out this season.

The Conway Classic 2000 is still a much sought after trailer tent. It is 6 berth, but can sleep 8 if you use the under bed tents. Two large double beds with mattresses, and a further two more can be utilised. Many storage compartments and a fully equipped kitchen with gas hobs and grill as well as draining facilities are also included.

As you can see the sleeping quarters are very spacious and luxurious, with double lockers for security and storage. There is plenty of privacy with the zip panels for each sleeping compartment and for the main sleeping area. Curtains make the look feel just right. The large awning can also be used to create a huge living space or a sun canopy, and all the panels can be arranged into almost any configuration you can think of.

The kitchen area is located very neatly into the side of the main canopy, with the wardrobe storage next to it. This means you have more space to relax in, and everything is close to hand and convenient. The used prices are around £1000 for this model, and it is still one of the best ever made. Make sure you have a good look at them before you buy, and check for signs of damage that could mean costly repair bills in the future.

Another popular Conway trailer tent is the Classic Trio which is a 6 berth tent. There are two double beds and two single beds can be extended for extra sleeping accomodation. The awning is either 1.5 or 2.5 metres, and you can add bigger sized awnings with a little know how. A portable kitchen area with double hob and grill, as well as a sink and draining board are included, along with plenty storage spaces. You will also find storage space under the beds and lockers and wardrobes as well. All the windows have curtains and the roofing is fully lined with optional carpets. Overall a very luxurious feel for little money on the second hand market. Prices are around £1000 for one in very good condition.

Other models are the Coniston, which is similar in spec to the Classic, and comes with ample sleeping quarters and kitchen area with double hob and grill. What sets it apart is the stylish design and colours. The trailer is compact and easy to tow, and it offers great comfort for up to 8 people if you extend the inner tent. It is a very large tent, with a big awning to give more space if needed. All the front an side panels can be removed or zipped up to create any kind of arrangement you need. Great versatility and quality all round. A very popular trailer tent indeed.

The used prices are about £1000 to £1200 for a good one that has not been abused. You will find that most Conway trailer tents are in good condition because they are so well made and durable. Another good choice is the Conway Olympia, which is truly huge, and offers accomodation for the whole family, and then some. Very stylish and well designed, it has all the features previously mentioned, but it is the flagship tent, and the best overall package.

The Conway Continental is a 2008 trailer, and has a very good standard specification which includes a stainless steel sink, double hob unit, inner tents, a free standing table and a vinyl floor. The prices start at around £5490 for the basic trailer. If you want to add some extras then an awning is about £900, an awning extension is £270, and the inner tent for the awning is about £100. It can sleep 6 people in comfort, and is one of the top rated Conway trailers.

The Conway Countryman is a step up in both price and comfort, and it will cost you around £7000, which is pretty expensive, but you are getting a top quality, very well made trailer from one of the best names in the business. Included as standard are a fridge, oven, cooker, an electric supply and interior lighting. The decor is high quality and built to last. The best feature is that it is very simple to erect and easy to to due to it’s narrow body. It sleeps 4 people, but it does it with real style.

The Conway Cruiser is part of the new Platinum series and is built on the larger Pathfinder chassis. It is laiden with extras and high quality interior decor. It sleeps 6 people and the price is around £9000. For this price you get a fully equipped kitchen area with all appliances and ammenities, wrap around seating areas, tables, wardrobes, sheleves, many storage spaces. Everything really!! It is like having a caravan without the extra price tag and towing problems. A small family car can tow this trailer tent without difficulty, and this makes it much more fuel efficient than towing a heavy caravan. It can be set up in under 10 minutes, which is a big plus point.

The Conway Crusader is the top of the range, and it costs around £9500 in standard specification. It has all the facilities that the Cruiser has , but in addition there is a washing room area and toilet. The cabin and awning are mildew resistant, water proof and will not fade. This trailer is built to last, and the price reflects the outstanding quality of the Conway. The ultimate in every sense.

Sunncamp are one of the most respected trailer tent manufacturers around. Their reputation has been built on providing affordable and quality products over many years. The after sales and support is second to none, and the Sunncamp stockists are always very helpful and friendly from my experience. Sunncamp are one of the best on the market and their trailer tent range has won many awards for durability and ease of use.

There are also many trailer tent accessories available from Sunncamp so it is worth taking a good look at what they have to offer. The Sunncamp range has five trailer tents to choose from, and each has been designed for different requirements and people. All of them have warranties and guarantees should you have any trouble with them, but i doubt you will.

The first in the line up is the Sunncamp Holiday 240 Duo, which is a two berth trailer tent, hence the name. This tent features a very large living space to relax in. It comes with a very large 2.4 metre awning that will really give you much more storage space, and it is very simple to erect, which is handy to say to least.

The awning can be attached to the front of the tent with the zips, so it is very simple to do. When fully extended you will have somewhere to sit and enjoy your stay. The awning is also pretty stylish and durable, with a more modern look and feel than most other awnings i have seen. The large front panel can be rolled or zipped up for easy access, as can the side panels, which have windows and curtains in them.

The best feature is the quick erect pegless cabin, which means you do not have to support the trailer tent to the ground. This is a great bonus if you are on hard ground, and saves a lot of time too. A large double bed with seating on both sides of the trailer mean you will adequate comfort. The tent is made from quality canvas that has been extensively tested in the most demanding conditions, so it will not let you down when you need it most, and the roof and the awning are fully lined. The trailer has a fully galvanised chassis so it will not corrode, and there are 10 inch wheels for more stability when towing. A jockey wheel and drawbar are also included. Furthermore, the base panel is washable to keep your trailer tent in pristine condition. This is a lot of features for the price, and you can expect to pay around £1400, but you can get it for much less from some of the classified adverts on the used sections of camping websites. Ebay is another useful place to look, and ther are some big savings on there.

Next up is the Sunncamp Holiday 240S, which is a larger version of the Duo, and contains two large double beds. It has been made to be easy to tow and has the same 10 inch wheels as the Duo. If you want to set up camp quickly then the trailer tent will be more than enough for an over night stay. It also has the big awning which you can set up at your leisure, and this gives much more space for longer stays. Seating within the trailer gives more flexibility in a hurry, but there is also a kitchen area on the right hand side wall, which is an extra feature due to the larger overall size.

The trailer is galvanised and well balanced, with a jockey wheel and drawbar. All in all a very durable and quality trailer tent that is used by hundreds of campers all over the world, one of the most popular on the market today. The prices start at about £1900, and many places have sold out already, so be prepared to look around.

The top of the 240 range is the Holiday 240SE, which is basically the same as the others except the SE tents come with a luxury fitted kitchen. This kitchen simply unhooks from the rear of the trailer when you reach camp. There are two hob burners and a grill, along with a sink and drainer.

The hob and grill can be covered to create a useful work top on which to prepare food. This is a high quality product for the money, and the styling is modern and well designed for space and comfort. The prices are about £2150, and most of the reviews i have seen for sunncamp have been first rate, and this comes the owners who know what they are like to live with.

Moving up in both cost and size we have the Sunncamp Holiday 340SE. This trailer tent is ideal for the whole family becuase it has so many extra features. You get a 3.5 metre awning that can comes with an added side extension that fits the full size kitchen, toilet and clothes storage compartments. This gives a huge amount of space without compromising comfort.

The trailer awning sides and front panel can be removed to create a veranda extension, or zipped back up to give an extra living space as well as the actual tent space. The 340SE also comes with a fully equiped kitchen that has a double hob and grill as well as a sink and drainer. This is housed in the separate kitchen extension that has a skylight so you can see what you are cooking, very handy and well thought out. It is this attention to detail that gives Sunncamp the edge over it’s competitors.

There is loads of little storage pockets in the inner and outer trailer, as well as lockers under the trailer seat for added security. Two large double beds are also included, and these come with full size mattresses. Extra sleeping accomodation can be found with the inner tents found under the trailer seating. It is also easy to erect and is fully protected with heavy duty canvas. The prices are around £2250 for this model, but used are lower in price. Again, this is one of the most popular Sunncamp trailer tents and is sold out in many places.

The flagship Sunncamp trailer tent is the Holiday 400SE, and this provides top of the line camping facilities. It has a very large 4 metre awning which is absolutely huge. The two front panels can be zipped forwards or backwards to either create the full size awning or a sun canopy, depending on the weather and your needs.

You can do lots of things with the side and front panels to create a whole range of living spaces and porches. It is very easy and flexible. A fully installed kitchen and it’s own kitchen area are contained inside, along with comfortable beds and many storage spaces. Extra sleeping accomodation is also available. Everything you can think of is in this trailer tent, and the price is around £2350 to £2500. For the price this is luxury camping at it’s best, it is difficult to find anything better than this.

All Sunncamp tents are made from 100% cotton canvas that is very breathable and provides good air circulation. The support frames are made from coated steel tubes that are lightweight and specially reinforced for extra strength. The zips are self repairing, and are extra heavy duty so thy will last. The trailers are galvanised and well balanced so they are easy to tow about and will not rust. All the tent windows come with curtains for added privacy. The SE models come with the fitted kitchen and hob/grill/sink set up. Probably the best trailer tents you can get for the prices. Highly recommended for price and quality.

Trailer tent camping is very popular with many people who want an inexpensive and fun way of enjoying their holidays. The big advantage is that a trailer tent costs much less than owning a caravan or a motorhome, and is much easier to maintain. There are no running maintenance costs and costly bills like you will get with running a motorhome. No road tax or service bills to worry about. This is why they are becoming more and more useful and popular to just about everyone.

A top of the range caravan can cost anything up to £10000 and upwards, and a motorhome will be a whole lot more than that. These are very expensive pieces of equipment, and you will have to save up a for a long time to own one of them. Compare this to the price of a good quality trailer tent, which you can purchase for around £1000-£2000 and the benefits become very clear indeed. Some are cheaper than this, and the used trailer tent market has some real bargains if you know what you are looking for.

Good quality trailer tents should be fairly easy to put up when you get to your destination. Most are designed to be easy to use, and fold out quickly and neatly. Wen you buy any tent get to know how it works beforehand. Practising in your front garden is a great way to get to know all the little details and will save you time and effort when you actually have to erect it the first time at the camp site.

Travelling can be very stressful, and so you ant the whole process of seting up to be as hassle free as possible. Many petty arguments have started because of the slightest things, and most of people are usually tired and cranky after a long drive. You don’t want this to carry over on the camp site with others watching on. Knowing how to put up your trailer tent will stop any problems before they even start, and you will soon be relaxing and enjoying your holiday.

The great thing about camping is meeting and making new friends. There will always be someone to give you a hand if you get into difficulties, but you when you know what to do this becomes easier. The first time will always be the hardest, but you will soon get into the swing of things.

It is a great feeling to be able to sit inside your own little home from home, and it is even more enjoyable when you realise how little it can cost for years of camping and fun. There are all kinds of different tent styles and designs out there to suit both your needs and budget. Many trailer tents can be extended and modified to sleep any number of people you wish, and for extra storage space to house all your camping gear. This flexibility is another big plus point for many owners. Packing them away and moving to different locations is also very simple because they are designed for this very purpose. You will get years of service from a good quality tent, which is well worth the initial investment. Happy camping!
